5 TV SERIES YOU MUST WATCH

Watching TV series to kill some time or for the sheer talent exhibited by actors on a smaller screen is a great way to pass time and acknowledge true talent. If the TV series are interesting, sitcoms like FRIENDS and How I Met Your Mother have lasted 10 and 8 seasons respectively. Changing the genre to crime and drama, Dexter, another popular TV series, will premiere its 8th season on 30th June, 2013 and the possibility of a 9th season in 2014.

The only problem is that you need to wait for every episode. To kill some time in between, here’s a list of 5 TV shows that will surely keep you hooked and wanting for more.

1. COUPLING (2000 – 2004)

IMDB Rating – 8.7/10
 

This British sitcom is a masterpiece by a notable writer and producer, Steven Moffat. The sitcom is loosely based on Steven’s marriage, thus making it a semi-autobiographical on how he met his wife, Sue Vertue, played by Susan (Sarah Alexander) and Steven himself, played by Steve (Jack Davenport).

The story also involves Patrick (Ben Miles) and the extremely talented Jeff (Richard Coyle – Tus, the trustworthy elder brother of Dastan from Prince of Persia) as friends of Steve. Sally (Kate Isitt) and Jane (Gina Bellman) are friends of Susan.

The story is about how couples involve themselves in a sexual relationship to satisfy their needs but have to tackle each other’s baggage as well. It’s a complicated yet hilarious roller coaster of emotions, drama and comedy.

Watch it for the brilliant acting and comic timing of Richard Coyle.

2. FLASH FORWARD (2009 – 2010)

IMDB Rating – 7.6/10



Flash Forward is an American Sci-Fi series based on the novel FlashForward by Canadian Sci-Fi writer, Robert J. Sawyer.

The story is about a Los Angeles FBI agents, led by Mark (Joseph Fiennes) investigate the causes for a worldwide event that makes people look 6 months into their future. Mark sees that his wife, Olivia (Sonya Walger) is going to cheat on him with a suspect of the worldwide catastrophe. The agents get obsessed as the world is in shock and awe as to whatever they saw in their future is coming true.

Watch it for the intense acting and a brilliant storyline.

3. FAWLTY TOWERS (1975 – 1979)

IMDB Rating – 9/10



Fawlty Towers is a classic British Sitcom about Basil Fawlty, played by John Clesse, his wife Sybil Fawlty, played by PrunellaScales running a hotel with the help of a staff that comprises of a Spanish waiter, Manuel, played by the iconic British comedian Andrew Sachs, their maid – Polly, portrayed by Connie Booth and their chef, Terry (Brian Hall), a laid-back cockney character.

The sitcom portrays Basil as an incompetent, arrogant and short tempered manager, who despite his best efforts cannot keep the troubles in his hotel at bay.

Watch it for the spontaneity in acting and the comedy of errors.

4. THE IT CROWD (2006 – Present)

IMDB Rating – 8.6/10



This is another British Sitcom which depicts the unorganized IT tech support team that dwells in the basement of a MNC – Reynholm Industries.

The story is set around Jen (KatherineParkinson), manager of the two geeks, Roy (Chris O’Dowd) and Moss (RichardAyoade) who are till now, running an IT department with their shenanigans in an untidy, unkempt, and murky basement.

Watch it for the witty scenes and reality of IT departments (to an extent).

After a sabbatical of more than a year, it is speculated that the 5th and final season of The IT Crowd is set to premiere on 25th June, 2013.

5. ENTOURAGE (2004 – 2011)

IMDB Rating – 8.6/10



Film Star Vincent (Adrian Grenier) goes through a roller coaster with his elder brother Johnny (Kevin Dillon), childhood friends Eric (Kevin Connolly), who is his manager as well; and Turtle (Jerry Ferrera), and Ari (Jeremy Piven) who make Vincent’s entourage.

Vincent learns who has risen to fame thanks to some instant success, learns how businesses in the film industry are managed and what can happen when success goes to your head. Ari, a flamboyant LA professional is responsible for bringing work for Vincent, who becomes his most valued customers is often seen shuffling between work and family and how he always ends up giving importance to the former. Ari even has a personal assistant, Lloyd (Rex Lee), a native Chinese who is quite a character at work.

Watch it for the brilliant performance by Jeremy Piven.
